10 Signs That Your Computer Is Dying

Do you suspect that your computer might be on the verge of dying on you any day now?

The good news is that there are many desktop computers that cost less than $300 these days. It’ll make it easy for you to replace your computer once it finally goes on you.

But the bad news is that there are still some higher-end computers that can cost thousands of dollars. You’ll want to be able to save up some money prior to purchasing one.

By looking out for the signs that your computer is dying, you can give yourself more than enough time to start saving for a new one if you need to do it. Here are 10 signs that’ll let you know your computer will need to be replaced soon.

1. It’s Painfully Slow

Does it take for…e…ver for your computer to start up programs, open up documents, and load websites? This is one of the first signs that your computer is dying.

It’s normal for computers to slow down a little bit as they start to get up there in age. But if your computer is almost unusable as a result of how slow it is, it might be time to think about replacing it.

It’s only going to be a matter of time before your computer stops working altogether.

2. It Freezes Up All the Time

Is there anything more frustrating than spending an hour or two putting together a Word document or a PowerPoint presentation only to have your computer freeze up and lose it?

Computers that aren’t working right will often freeze and force people to reboot them before they start firing on all cylinders again. If your computer is in the habit of freezing all the time, consider replacing it or, at the very least, having it fixed.

This article called “When Your Computer Needs Help: The Top Tips for Choosing the Right Computer Repair Service” can help you find a computer repair service to help you.

3. It Restarts for No Reason

Does your computer seem to have a mind of its own at times? One second, it’s working just fine, and the next, it restarts for no reason and with no warning at all.

You could argue that having this happen to you is almost worse than having your computer freeze up. You’ll sense that your computer might be slowing down and getting ready to freeze, but you’ll be caught off guard when it restarts without any warning.

4. It Makes Way Too Much Noise

Is your computer making so much noise right now that it sounds like it’s about to take flight?

There are some instances in which hard drives will make a lot of noise as they age. You may be able to quiet one down by having it repaired or replacing it.

There are also instances in which the fans inside your computer will run all the time to keep the inside of it cool. This will create a lot of noise as well and will force you to shut your computer down when you’re not using it.

5. It’s Always Warm or Even Hot to the Touch

Fans inside of computers will often start to stay on more often than not when computers overheat.

They do their best to cool your computer down. But when the components in your computer are working too hard day in and day out, it can be impossible to keep them cool no matter how long your fans stay on.

If you’ve noticed that your computer is a little warm or even hot when you touch it, shut it down as soon as you can and seek repair services. Your computer could burn out on you if you’re not careful.

6. It’s No Stranger to Error Messages

Have you noticed that error messages are popping up on your computer monitor more and more often? Don’t ignore them!

Error messages are your computer’s way of telling you that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. That problem is only going to get worse the more times you “X out” of error messages.

The occasional error message shouldn’t be too much of a cause for concern. But if you’re seeing error messages all the time, it could be one of the signs that your computer is dying.

7. It Gets Bombarded With Pop-Ups

Now that most computers stay connected to the internet all the time, it’s not uncommon to see pop-ups on the screen when you turn a computer on. It’s also not uncommon to see them when you’re surfing the web for hours on end.

But if your computer gets bombarded with pop-ups every time you click your mouse, it’s an issue. These pop-ups will annoy you to no end and indicate that your computer could have malware on it.

A pop-up problem often gets worse over time. Investigate the cause of the pop-ups to see where they’re coming from and how you can stop them.

8. It Keeps Getting Viruses

There are hundreds of millions of computer viruses in the world.

Fortunately, a very small percentage of those viruses affect computer users. But if you ever get one, it could make you feel like throwing your computer out the window and starting from scratch.

Some computer viruses are innocent enough and won’t cause too much trouble on your computer, but others can wreak havoc on your computer and compromise your personal information. They can even cause your computer to die if you let them sit on your hard drive for a long enough time.

9. It Loses Programs and Documents

Are there programs and documents randomly disappearing from your computer?

A virus could be to blame. There could also be any number of other issues with your computer. But obviously, finding that programs and documents are disappearing from sight without a trace isn’t ideal.

If your computer can’t keep up with your programs and documents anymore, it might be time to invest in a new one.

10. It’s Old

Your computer isn’t going to last forever. In fact, the average desktop computer only lasts for between 3 and 5 years.

If your computer is much older than that, you shouldn’t expect for it last much longer. Start thinking about purchasing a new computer before your old one gives out.
